Georgia O'Keeffe: Memories of Drawings, an exhibition celebrating pioneering American artist Georgia O’Keeffe, is wowing visitors to The Gallery in The Arc, Winchester. One visitor commented, “another wonderful exhibition”, with Memories of Drawings following on from an exhibition of works showing the darker side of John Constable earlier in the summer.

The Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition from the Southbank Centre presents a remarkable collection of O’Keeffe’s work. With no artworks by O’Keeffe held in UK public collections, this exhibition is a rare chance to see her work in person outside the US . It showcases 21 photogravures of drawings produced by the artist between 1915-1963, reflecting the period in which she established herself as a major figure in American Modernism.

Running alongside Memories of Drawings is Beneath the Surface, an exhibition in the City Space gallery in The Arc which presents the work of local printmaker, Kate Watkins. Watkins’ exhibition explores the interplay between structural forms, colour and expressive mark making. It places earlier, monochrome figurative prints inspired by local coastal settings and reflective of O’Keeffe’s work in The Gallery alongside more recent, highly coloured geometric and expressive abstract artworks. Both artists have taken inspiration from the natural world and transcended it into abstraction.

Georgia O'Keeffe: Memories of Drawings runs until Wednesday 15 November. Admission is charged at £5.00 for adults, £4.00 for concessions and £3 for children, all including donation with Gift Aid. Kate Watkins’ Beneath the Surface runs until Sunday 24 September and is free to view at the City Space gallery on The Arc’s mezzanine floor.
