There are plenty of things for families to do as you visit the Allen Gallery.
Over in the Curtis Museum there is a dressing-up area with a selection of fun and historic themed costumes.
We also run a regular programme of family friendly activities with drop-in activities and bookable workshops.
These run every school holiday and are aimed at families joining in and having fun together.
There is also a selection of trails in both buildings available for different ages and abilities.
Inspired by our displays or changing programme of exhibitions, there is something to do!
The Allen Gallery has Activity bags for families with children under 5 to borrow during their visit.
Our activity bags give our youngest visitors and their families the chance to explore our displays through play, books, games and puzzles, and are free to use whilst visiting the Gallery.
We’ll make you feel welcome
We’ll give you a hand to help your children enjoy the museum and gallery.
We won’t say ssshhhush! Museums and Galleries are places for discovery and fun.
We’ll answer kids’ questions – not just those asked by adults.
We’ll try not to say ‘Don’t touch’ too often and if we have to we’ll tell you why and what you can touch instead.
We’ll make sure our ‘What’s On’ pages are up to date with events for families and send leaflets to local schools with our events before every school holiday.
Our website will give you clear information about what we can and cannot provide.
We try to be ‘height aware’ so that objects, pictures and labels are at a suitable height for a child to see and if not, you can borrow ‘step-up steps’ to give you a hand.
We produce trails and activities for all the family together, not just the kids.
We provide lots of places to sit down.
We have baby changing facilities in the Allen Gallery.
Both the Curtis Museum and the Allen Gallery are small, but we try to make sure there is room for coats and pushchairs.
We can provide water in the coffee area, plus you are welcome to bring your own food and drink for an outdoor picnic in the garden during the Summer.
We sell pocket money items in our museum shop, and things kids will treasure.
We’ll give you a friendly goodbye.
Please let us know the best bit of your visit, either in words or pictures. We encourage feedback.
