Thornycroft kept a manuscript register of all the vehicles they built. These usually included the chassis and engine numbers, the name of the customer, date of delivery and a note of the model and the engine.
The original registers have survived and are in Hampshire County Council’s Thornycroft archive. To make them accessible to owners of historic vehicles and other researchers we are having them typed up so that they can be read and searched online. Work is ongoing but the PDF documents below represent the first volume and cover the period from 1896 to 1921. We are grateful to one of our volunteers for undertaking this mammoth task.
Vehicles in the early days were sold as a chassis with engine and transmission so a note might be made of the type of bodywork (flat bed, box van etc) if that was to be supplied by Thornycroft. Some purchasers preferred to have that element of the construction dealt with elsewhere.
