We will showcase, connect and empower its creative economy
SEARCH is not just about History and Science. Our sessions develop skills and knowledge across the curriculum and the museum has a wealth of resources that inspire art and literacy.
Use the specimens to get close up encounters to inspire art work in various media. You can even create a display in our mini gallery for our other visitors to enjoy!
We have collections and room sets reflecting art and design styles from Morris to Warhol, including Art Nouveau and Art Deco and lots of classic packaging! Create your own printed designs for wallpaper, gift wrap or cards or create object displays in different artists’ styles!
In March (or to coincide with your school’s Book Week) we set up interactives using our collections where they link to famous books and stories. Meet the animals from Wind in the Willows, join the Mad Hatter, Alice and the Dormouse for a tea party and a flamingo and hedgehog for a game of croquet Lewis Carroll style! See the Owl Babies and the Bad Tempered Ladybird and lots more.
In September (Roald Dahl.’s birthday) you can book a session of activities based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox and many other Dahl favourites, using real specimens and artefacts for exciting activities.
KS1 groups studying this fairytale can turn our room sets into Cinderella's kitchen and the Ugly Sisters' parlour. Plus they can dress up and exploreand draw objects from the story.
Create your own stories or dramas using our collections and room sets or make your own museum displays, exhibited and interpreted by the children.
