The current occupier of the corner site is not the best example of 1960s architecture. Although it is now within a conservation area covering the Old Town Centre, it is difficult to believe that its replacement would be resisted if a redevelopment proposal came along. It was presumably set back to allow for some highway improvement scheme which, fortunately, was never implemented beyond this point.
