There's plenty of hands-on fun for all the family at City Museum!
Become an amateur archaeologist and handle real artefacts, or why not turn detective and have a go at solving our museum spotter trail?
You can make a Saxon coin rubbing, colour in your own Anglo-Saxon pot design or see if you can spot all the faces or all the objects with our quizzes. There are also all kinds of period costumes to try on - pretend to be a Roman or a Saxon and see what they would have worn, or why not dress up like an Edwardian lady or Victorian gentleman? Take a look at our children's guide.
Visiting a museum with with young children can be a challenge, but at City Museum, we aim to make your visit easy and enjoyable.
You are welcome to leave your buggy on the ground floor near the main entrance - please take all valuables with you! - and toilets and baby changing facilities are available towards the back of the ground floor near the lift.
Throughout the museum you will find step-up stools so that even the youngest of children can try the activities on each floor. Don't worry too much about noise, the museum is not a library, you don't have to whisper! Your child can touch any of the objects within their reach, if objects are not to be touched, they are safely out of harms way.
