Having completed an apprenticeship as a Mechanical Fitter with BR, Chris continued to work at Eastleigh Works until the closure of the works in 2006. He continued a railway career at various locations, both in workshop and office-based positions.
Since leaving school he had volunteered on the Mid-Hants Railway working on the various restoration and maintenance projects at the Ropley Yard. When the Mid Hants offered to be a host for the IMATT scheme, Chris saw this as an opportunity to broaden his experience in the heritage sector.
To run an outstation workshop and supervise a volunteer team to carry out the overhaul of steam locomotive “Cheltenham” with support and mentoring from the Mid-Hants Railway.

Having undertaken a number of shorterm contracts within the heritage sector, he continues to seek a fulltime position in railway preservation.
