There were two Benjamin Bates, a father and son, working in Eastbourne, Sussex. The father is thought to have been in business from the 1860’s and his son is known to have taken over by the 1890’s.
Benjamin Bates was based at various addresses: 7 Little North Street from c1867; 48 Seaside Road (c1875-1882) and at 2 Bourne Road from c1891 to the late 1920’s. (Ref: Frost, C: 1987: A History of British Taxidermy. The Lavenham Press)
