Conference Information

A conference on the development of Winchester, its cultural and political life and its place in the Saxon and early medieval world.
Sunday 9 – Wednesday 12 July 2017.
 
The conference is headlined by four keynote speakers:

Professor Eric Fernie

Honorary Fellow, Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London

“The Norman Cathedral of Winchester and its Local, National and International Contexts”

Professor Sharon Rowley

Professor of English and Director of Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Christopher Newport University

“Constructing Early Medieval Winchester: Historical Narratives and the Compilation of British Library Cotton Otho B.xi”

Professor Barbara Yorke

Professor Emeritus of Early Medieval History, University of Winchester

“Royal Burial in Winchester: Context and Significance”

 

Speakers may be subject to change, however, we will do our best to ensure an enjoyable and enriching event for all.

The conference programme also includes a range of parallel sessions on themes including the intellectual life of Winchester, court and politics, saints and miracle stories, Bishops of Winchester and the people of Winchester.

Conference Dinner

Tuesday 11 July 8:00pm - 10:30pm (approximately). The conference dinner will take place in the Dining Hall on the University of Winchester’s Main Campus.

Cost per person: £59

 

Tickets must be pre-booked and will not be available on the day. Full details about all ticket options are available here.

*Day ticket entitles delegates to attend all conference activities on the chosen day and includes lunch and refreshments. Full details about the conference will be emailed to delegates on the week beginning 03 July.

**All-inclusive package entitles delegates to attend all conference activities and includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and refreshments from 9 – 12 July, including dinner on 10 July. Also includes admission to the public lecture. Please note the dinner included in this package is not the Conference Dinner, and delegates will need to organise their own dinner arrangements on the evening of 9th July.
